Drug-addled comedy ‘Pineapple Express’ dominates UK film charts

September 16, 2008

Drug-addled comedy ‘Pineapple Express’ has topped the UK film industry charts after its fabulous opening weekend, keeping ‘Mamma Mia!’ down in second slot for yet another week. The tale of how a rather lazy court clerk happens to witness a murder by an evil cop and a drug baron took whopping 1.37 million pounds, as mentioned by Screen International.

It has now been 10 weeks that the Abba-themed musical ‘Mamma Mia!’ remains in the UK charts but at number 2. Director Guy Ritchie’s gangster flick ‘RocknRolla’, last week’s chart-topper, was down at three. ‘The Women’, with Annette Bening and Meg Ryan, was at number four. It narrates the tale of gossip and bonding. ‘The Duchess’, an 18th century costume drama that features Keira Knightly was down a couple of places at number five.

At six, down from earlier week’s four, was ‘Step Brothers’, with John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell, while ‘Disaster Movie’, created by the team behind ‘Meet the Spartans’ and ‘Scary Movie’, fell from number five to seven. It’s a comedy spoof.

At eight was ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, the story of the young son of Nazi officer. ‘The Strangers’, with Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler was at nine. Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight’ was at 10.
